While we’ve not had a chance to go hands-on with the new LG Gram laptops, with CES swapping Las Vegas for the internet due to the ongoing global pandemic, LG has created a free virtual exhibition space for all of its CES 2021 products for anyone dearly missing the show floor this year. Lets run down the specs and see what’s so special about these diminutive laptops.

Display

The new LG Grams come in 17” and 16” models with WQXGA (2560x1600) 16:10 displays as well as a 14” model with a WUXGA (1920x1200) 16:10 display. Regardless of the size that you opt for, all of the models feature an IPS display that offers 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. To make this display pop all the more, LG has encased it in a four-sided ‘super slim’ bezel which has resulted in a 90% screen to body ratio. However, if you long for a touchscreen, the 2-in-1 models of the LG Gram have you covered and are protected by Gorilla Glass 6.

Specs

The new LG Grams aren’t just a pretty face, they pack a punch too. The entire range features an 11th Gen Intel Core processor, with Iris Xe Graphics, and up to 16GB of LPDDR4x memory. They’re also all Intel Evo certified, allowing for Wi-Fi 6 support, improved battery life over the previous generation, faster wake times, and Thunderbolt 4 for up to 40 GB/s data transfer speeds. Improvements to battery life are all well and good but with a 80Wh battery under the hood of the 17” and 16” models, with the 14” packing a respectable 72Wh battery, it seems like there will be plenty of juice in all of the new LG Grams to get you through the day. The I/O should please most, with 2 USB 4 Gen 3 ports and 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, a microSD/UFS slot, and HDMI. The 2-in-1 models also come with a stylus pen that’s compatible with Wacom AES 2.0. It’s wild that all of this power, with a fingerprint reader and DTS:X Ultra codec support as sweet bonuses, comes in laptops that start at 0.66-inch thick. However, even more impressive, is that the starting weight for the range is less than 2.2lbs. Given how small and portable they are, these latest LG Gram laptops could end up being ideal laptops for college (opens in new tab) students. There’s no word on pricing or availability, just yet, but these featherweight heavy hitters should be available very soon.
