In essence, the trap mine is a proximity bomb. You can place it in patrol paths to kill roving guards or place it strategically to lure guards into a trap. Unlike other secondary weapons in The Last of Us 2, such as the stun bomb or pipe bomb, you can pick up the trapmine once you’ve placed it.
To put it on the ground, simply press “R2.” To pick it up, stand next to it, and press “Triangle.” You’ll need one canister and one explosive to craft it.
Below, I’ll show you how to get the trapmine during the game’s Capitol Hill section. Don’t worry; it’s actually super easy to find.
The Last of Us 2 Trap Mine Location
After escaping the school (Eastbrook Elementary) in Seattle, you’ll eventually get to a short cutscene where Ellie shows Dina a picture of Leah. After the cutscene, your new objective will be to get to the TV station.
But before you get there, you’ll want to search the surrounding apartments and the Capitol Hill hotel for crafting supplies and, of course, the trap mine.
After the cutscene, drop down to the street below. Go down the street, past the yellow pedestrian crossing sign. Take a right. Go between the building and past the pool.
The Capitol Inn will be in front of you. Now, go through the parking lot and take a right in the back of the parking lot. There will be a white apartment building with orange shutters in front of you.
The second-story balcony’s glass door will be open. To your right is a garbage bin. Use it to get to the balcony’s ledge and go into the apartment. Go straight back and into the bedroom on the left. The trap mine is on the bed.
